ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER.

Judith Brown has periodically traveled, lived and worked in India and the Himalayan Mountains during the past thirty years. She provides strategic planning assistance to non-profit environmental conservation organizations in the United States, Bhutan and Nepal. 43 Ladakh133.jpg (52,726 bytes)
44Ladakh233.jpg (81,797 bytes) Her interest in remote enclaves of Tibetan Buddhist cultures extends from Ladakh through the Dolpo, Mustang and Kangchenjunga districts of Nepal to Bhutan and the Tibetan plateau. She focuses on documenting the transitions of remote traditional cultures faced with the inevitability of change and the choices they make in response to external influences and internal motivations.
Judith has a Ph.D. from Columbia University with an area specialization in South and Southeast Asian Studies. She has studied photography at U.C. Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute. Presently she serves on the Boards of the San Francisco JAZZ Organization and DROKPA, a non-profit that partners with pastoral communities in the Himalayan region to cultivate the health of their cultural and natural systems. www.DROKPA.org.
